Former Alabama players continue their success on both sides of the ball

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The third week of the 2019 season in the National Football League wrapped up on Monday. Below is a look at some of the week three highlights from former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.

Former Heisman trophy winner Mark Ingram had a huge day on the ground for the Baltimore Ravens. The tailback carried the ball 16 times for 103 yards and three touchdowns to become just the third running back in Ravens history to register three touchdowns and 100-plus yards in the same game. Ingram also hauled in four passes for 32 yards.

Also excelling on offense were a pair of former Alabama wide receivers. Amari Cooper caught six passes for 88 yards and two touchdowns in the Dallas Cowboys’ 31-6 win over the Miami Dolphins. Fellow wideout Julio Jones caught a team-high eight passes for 128 yards and added a touchdown in the Atlanta Falcons’ matchup with the Indianapolis Colts. O.J. Howard also provided a solid effort this week for Tampa Bay. The tight end hauled in three receptions for 66 yards in the Buccaneers matchup with the New York Giants.

Alabama defensive backs also provided strong individual performances during week three. One of the week’s most impressive performances came from Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, who led the Bears in tackles, recording nine stops. The Chicago safety added two interceptions, one of which he returned for a 37-yard score on Monday Night Football. Also excelling in the national spotlight was Ronnie Harrison. The third-year safety began week three with an impressive effort on Thursday Night Football. Harrison led the Jaguars in tackles, totaling 10 stops, and contributed a pass breakup. Both defensive backs performances helped lead their respective teams to wins.

On Sunday, another pair of former Tide defensive backs stood out. In his first game as a Pittsburgh Steeler, Minkah Fitzpatrick spotted the stat sheet, recording five tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Also in the AFC North, Bengals’ defensive back Dre Kirkpatrick provided an impressive performance for Cincinnati with six tackles and a pass breakup.

Rounding out the defensive performances in week three was rookie Christian Miller. The Carolina Panthers linebacker recorded two sacks – the first of Miller’s career – and helped the Panthers to a 38-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals.
