The redshirt senior is one of three candidates for national center of the year honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama center Ross Pierschbacher has been named one of three finalists for the Rimington Trophy, the Rimington Trophy Committee announced Monday.
After making 42 career starts at left guard in his first three years at UA, Pierschbacher transitioned to center and has started all 13 games, helping pave the way for a Tide offense that is second in the country in scoring and seventh in total offense. The Cedar Falls, Iowa, native earned Midseason All-America honors from the Associated Press and The Athletic and was on the Outland Trophy and Rimington Trophy watch lists. He earned SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week accolades for his play at Arkansas. On Sunday, Pierschbacher was named one of UA’s four permanent captains for this season.
Pierschbacher is joined as a finalist by North Carolina State’s Garrett Bradbury and Notre Dame’s Sam Mustipher.
The Rimington Trophy has been presented annually since 2000 to the outstanding center in NCAA Division I football. Barrett Jones (2012) and Ryan Kelly (2015) previously won the award for the Crimson Tide. The winner of the 2018 Rimington Trophy will be announced during the ESPNU Red Carpet Show on Thursday, Dec. 6 prior to the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards Show in Atlanta, Ga.
