First-year players have been key contributors in their debut seasons

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama linebacker Dylan Moses and return specialist Henry Ruggs III were named to the Southeastern Conference All-Freshman Team, the league office announced Thursday. The team was voted on by the league’s 14 head coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own players.

A strong and speedy threat at linebacker, Moses has collected 30 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss (-24 yards) and 1.5 sacks (-17 yards), forced a fumble and intercepted one pass in 11 games this season. The Baton Rouge, La., native finished the regular season on an upswing, recording 21 tackles in his first two career starts against Mercer and Auburn.

Ruggs III serves as one of the Tide’s returners on both kickoffs and punts. The Montgomery, Ala., native has returned 10 kickoffs for 191 yards while taking back eight punts totaling 46 yards. He is also a deep-ball threat in the talented Tide receiving corps, with seven receptions for 175 yards, the first five of which went for touchdowns. Ruggs III leads the Tide in touchdown receptions and yards per catch average at 25.0.
