The junior tailback rushed for a career-high 147 yards and three touchdowns vs. Wisconsin
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama junior running back Derrick Henry was named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. The conference award is Henry’s first of his career.
In his first game as the Crimson Tide’s official starter Henry took advantage of the opportunity. The junior finished the season opener against the 20th-ranked Wisconsin Badgers with 147 yards on 13 carries for an 11.3 yards-per-carry average while also adding three touchdowns on runs of 37, 56 and two yards.
He reeled in two catches for 12 yards by night’s end as well. The 147 yards and three touchdowns both eclipsed his previous career highs. He also surpassed the century mark for the sixth time in his career with Saturday’s performance.
In his last three games, Henry has amassed 383 yards on 46 carries for an 8.3 yards per carry average and added six rushing touchdowns in those outings. He has also dominated inside domed stadiums for his career, collecting 593 yards on 72 carries with eight touchdowns on the ground and adding five receptions for 127 yards and a touchdown. Four of his six games rushing for 100 or more yards have also come inside a dome.
